The year in general was sketched with particular emphasis being mentioned on the institution of the Natural Church Development program in March under the leadership of Grace Osinski, commitment to the Camp Edgewood Retreat in April and fulfillment in October with a Wish List created for Bethany and the stabilization of Youth and Christian Education through the Kloslers and Hadlands.”

“It is noted that ‘rental income in March [from the ‘Y’ Day Care] includes $2,600.00 from the YMCA.  Without this unanticipated income, the cash flow for March would have been negative.”

*Note:  The YMCA stopped renting on April 26, 2006.

          The Eleventh Biennial Assembly of the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada

‘The only business that was controversial was the Same Sex Blessings.  The following motion was presented to the Assembly:

          That the Eastern synod of the ELCIC recognizes that the blessing of same gender couples who want to make a life-long commitment to one another in the presence of God and their community of faith is a matter of pastoral and congregational discretion.  Authorization to perform such blessings shall require the consent of the pastor and the consent of the congregation or calling agency, and in consultation with the bishop.

          The motion passed, 197—75.”

Aug. 12, 2007.     Building Use Committee

“call –congregational meeting to inform congregation of their findings and to ask for expansion and upgrading of bathrooms.  Included in this would be the re-doing of the pastor’s study.”

“$4600.00 was donated by Elizabeth Durichen for the choir.  Possibility of using the funds towards the new hymnals may be an option.”

Plan A, B, C.

A)   -expand and upgrade present washrooms, include a family washroom and re-design the Pastor’s office  --approx $10,000.

B)  Build an addition onto north side of the church, includes plan A and add 100 sq. ft. to existing building.        $140,000 --$150,000.

C)  Leave the building structure as is.  Question of existing boiler:  Property Committee reports estimates from $60,000. for geothermal and         $28,000. for contemporary.

“Cindy Doering hired as part-time secretary.  Pastor Dick spending time instructing her as to various duties.  He says she is doing very well.

--transition between Dick and Ed  “Pastor Ed Bastian will be officiating at Annual Meeting.  People  are requested to wear name tags.

-pastor Ed will be official interim pastor as of Feb. 16th, 2008.”

“Glen Schwartz bought new taps for the small kitchen sink.. He and Gerald Mueller installed them.  They work.”

 

Thurs. May 8, 2008.

“We had the Energy Auditor in the building...investing the various ways we have or are doing toward conserving heat, etc. in our building.  He will forward his report at a later date.  This was done to be submitted for our use in getting Trillium Funding.”

“Move that a Building Fund be established to receive monies for future building or capital projects.  All projects shall be approved by the congregation and monies will be disbursed  only by Church Council.  Any funds deemed surplus to building or capital project requirements may be reallocated by congregational approval.

     Moved by Shirley Hickey.  Seconded by Inga Hansen.  Carried.”

Tues. June 10, 2008.

“Church Picnic—June 22 outside, weather permitting.  Members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the service and a salad or dessert for the lunch.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by church council. ...We asked Pastor Ed to put in a good word so we may have nice weather for our picnic.”

     “Yukon Youth Event     --$1,000.00 budgeted for the youth—Doering and Hadland families”

“Some concern over the Property Committee being stretched with general maintenance and washroom renovation. ‘The furnace project has entailed more work than expected with the environmental audit necessary to receive grants and the grant proposals that need to be written.’

                                  Congregational Mission Profile Survey was discussed and composed.  ...met later to get the survey typed and printed for council to read and then send to the Synod office.”

“This document  is  used to help with selecting a new pastor to fill the vacancy when Pastor Dick retired.   This gives an incoming pastor insight into the Bethany congregation’s history and plans for the future.”

Tues. Nov. 4, 2008.   Pastor’s Report

“Council met with 2 representatives from Synod, Pastors Rick Pryce and Janet Weber.  They spoke to us on the Renewed Vision for Mission.  Which was encouraging us to up our benevolence giving.  We are giving 7 % and they would like us to give 10%.”

“The Christmas Cantata will be on December 14th.”

“Pastor Mark Harris introduced to council”

“Pastor Ed Bastian volunteered to attend the confirmation camp this summer and represent Bethany if we do not have a pastor at that time.  He requested permission to purchase the puppet theatre...”

“Shirley Hickey motioned that we accept Pastor David Hammer as our Intentional Interim Minister for Bethany starting February 1, 2009.  Glen Schwartz seconded.  Carried.”

“’Mission Profile’ to be sent in to Synod”

“We talked about whether we should join with another close by Lutheran Church and have a pastor look after us both or maybe even three churches. ...”

“Gerald Mueller was very pleased with the response of volunteers following our Congregational Meeting.  The insulation of the sanctuary will begin with the southeast corner.  Dick Holm will convene the project and organize volunteers.  The roof should be installed the first week of May.”
