“Motions on Human Sexuality from the ELCIC National Convention

“Laura [Schneider] moved that council affirm Motions  #26, 27 and 28 on human sexuality which were passed at the ELCIC National Convention, thereby allowing Pastor Sara to perform same-sex marriages in our church.  Seconded by Cindy [Doering].  Carried.”

“A new logo was finalized.”

“Motion by Esther Mueller that Bethany become an official member of Operation Sharing. Seconded by Mary Moore.  Carried.”

“Council agreed that Richard Jones should be invited to continue his congregational coaching at Bethany.”

              Worship and Music

“The position of the choir during the service was discussed.  Council felt that the congregation should not get accustomed to the choir always being at the front.  Motioned by Esther and Carried that the choir vary their location (front and back) during the services.”

May 27th, 2012.                  Service and Publicity

“Esther commented on the success of the prayer flags and thanked everyone that helped.

The new Bethany logo was presented for Council’s approval.  Motioned by Esther, seconded by Mary that the new logo be accepted as Bethany’s official logo.  Carried.  The report was filed.”

“Trillium rep. Sheila, Trillium Volunteer-Brian George

-tour of church and reviewed proposed renovations.  Our application will be presented to the volunteer committee by the end of Sept.”

“A table showing the history of the last few years total monthly envelope offerings along with our financial position at that time, could be produced and used by the congregation to measure our current position in regards to finance.  The offering table would be printed in the bulletin and/or Signals.  The Committee felt it could have a more positive effect on the congregation in regards to our church’s current financial situation.”

“The recommendation to Council that a committee needs to be formed to plan for our church’s 80th anniversary in 2 years was noted.  Mary recommended that a request for volunteers could be added to the newsletter.”

“Publicity Committee suggested putting a children’s corner in the sanctuary.  Pastor Sara suggested a field trip to Church of Epiphany and Church of Good Shepherd, as they have children’s corners  in their church.”

“Shirley [Hickey] later received a letter, via courier from Pastor Sara which was shared with those attending the meeting.  In general, the letter stated that Pastor Sara had chosen a new career path and therefore wished to resign her position as Pastor of Bethany Lutherean Church...”

“Women’s Auxiliary 100th Anniversary:  To be held in September.  It was reported that a few members of the congregation are planning to attend the event.  Council agreed that the event should be advertised with a notice being posted on the bulletin board.”

July 28, 2013. Bethany Lutheran Church Congregational Call Meeting

“By motion of Church Council of Bethany Lutheran Church it is recommended that a Pastoral call be made to Pastor Tanya Ramer for a term of two years commencing September 1, 2013.”

“The official congregational call meeting form with the results of the meeting will be forwarded to the Bishop.”

Oct. 24, 2013.           Pastor’s Report

“fund-raising dinner and float

“Motioned by Inga, seconded by Mary that Bethany create and enter a float in the Santa Claus Parade, 2014, honouring the church’s 80th anniversary which falls on Dec. 10th, 2014.  Carried.”

“Also motioned by Mary, seconded by Shirley that Council accept Alf and Reta Warias’ offer to organize and prepare a fundraising dinner on Saturday, February 15th, 2014 in order to raise funds in support of the float for the 2014 Santa Claus parade. Carried.”

“Good news:--Motioned by Gary [Tubbe], seconded by Inga [Hansen] that upon being transferred from Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Owen Sound, Alf and Reta Warias be officially received into the membership at Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodstock.  Carried.”

              New Business

“-possibility of an Octoberfest  celebration at Bethany for 2014.”

“-Anniversary dinner

     Mary [Moore] suggested that an Anniversary Committee be established to plan and prepare for the celebration.  Mary then volunteered to coordinate the proposed Committee.”

-“—moved by Shirley, seconded by Gary that an 80th Anniversary Committee be established.  Carried.”

Nov. 21, 2013.          Business Arising

“—regarding recommended changes to the Synod Covenant

--council agreed to post a copy of the Covenant on the church’s website and to inform the congregation of its posting through the bulletin and laptop screen information on Sunday mornings.  If a member of the congregation does not have internet access a hard copy would be made available.”

“Was it ever ascertained that all persons who desired hard copies received them?  Mandate should be to present the data, notmerely to point out a source should someone choose to ask.”

“Pastor’s concern:  --an outline of each Committee’s mandate...does not exist.  Richard says misplaced.  Council is asked to search any files they may be aware of that may contain the missing material.

“-reminded by Cindy [Doering] that Committee Mandates had been updated at the Retreat of Oct. 3, 2010 held at Inga Hansen’s.

“—moved by Inga, seconded by Mary and carried;  -that we proceed with the purchase or replacement chairs which had been previously agreed upon.”

 

December 17, 2013.

“question of church cancellation due to inclement weather.  Council agreed that the pastor could contact the church of the chairperson of the congregation would contact the Pastor if the weather was such that driving was too dangerous for the Pastor to get to the church.”
